As you head north toward Canada, 9080 foot Chief Mountain dominates the terrain. It is on the eastern border of the park where the mountains meet the prairie. I was surprised by how quickly the mountains ended and the vast rolling wheat fields of the great prairie started.

In the language of the local Piegan Indians the mountain is know as Minnow Stakhoo. A legend on how the mountain got its name can be found at http://www.ocbtracker.com/ladypixel/chiefmtn.html.

The Alberta Temple is located in Cardston, about 25 miles north of the US-Canada Border. The temple was dedicated in 1923. I had been told how beautiful it was and decided to stop and take pictures while I was in the area.

After leaving Cardston, I headed south on Alberta Highway 2 which become US highway 89 when you cross the border. Just south of the border was this old barn with Chief Mountain in the background.

As you head south on highway 89 you reach a junction with a major road into the Many Glaciers area of the Glacier National Park. This like most roads in the park, this one winds along beside Lake Sherburne.

Located on Swiftcurrent Lake, the Many Glaciers Lodge is the largest in the park with 208 rooms. It was built in 1914 and 1915. One of the best know features of Glacier National Park are red "Jammer" buses which offer tours from all of the lodges in the park.

Across from Swiftcurrent Lake I got my first opportunity to see mountain goats. These animals are the emblem of Glacier National Park and also the Great Nothern Railroad. These pictues were taken with a zoom lens and a 2X multiplier.

This is another view of the same bear. To take this picture I had to use a 50-500 telephoto lens with a 2x multiplier. With this much lens it is hard to hold the camera steady and the 2x multiplier reduces the amount of light.

On Monday morning I arose early and headed back into the park. I was going to head home but when I saw the weather was clear I decided to go back across Going to the Sun and go back down the eastern side of the park. Just as I entered the park I saw this view of the sun coming up over the mountains.

Focal length: 12.8mm
Camera make: SONY

I followed the same path I had taken the day before but had many more opportunities for pictues. This is the sun coming up over Lake McDonald at the western edge of the park.
